The guidance on campaigning for the 6 May Scottish Parliament Election has been updated to reflect the fact that face-to-face doorstep canvassing cannot commence on 5 April as had been hoped. As you’ll be aware, doorstep canvassing being allowed is subject to the virus being sufficiently suppressed, based on three specific conditions. One of the conditions has not yet been met, namely the COVID-19 infection rate as an average across Scotland has not fallen to 50 per 100,000 or less. The 7 day rate on 1 April is 63 per 100,000.
As set out in the guidance, SCottish Government will keep the situation under regular review and if the infection rate falls to 50 per 100,000 during the campaign period it will be updated again to reflect that doorstep canvassing can commence. I will write again to highlight any updates.
